Langtang Valley Trek
Discover glacier valleys and Tamang villages close to Kathmandu
Langtang Valley Trek overview
Nepal's closest wilderness escape. The Langtang Valley Trek explores one of the most beautiful — and most resilient — valleys in the Himalayas, just 50 km north of Kathmandu. Known as the 'Valley of Glaciers', Langtang offers a compact but deeply rewarding journey through subtropical forest, alpine meadows, and ancient Tamang villages to the foot of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m). The 2015 earthquake devastated the valley and the heroic local communities who rebuilt it deserve every trekker's support and respect. The trail today winds past newly rebuilt tea houses, monasteries draped in prayer flags, yak herding pastures, and the famous Kyanjin Gompa — a centuries-old Buddhist monastery at the head of the valley. Atop Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m) you're rewarded with one of the most dramatic glacier panoramas in Nepal: a 180-degree sweep of Langtang Lirung, Gangchenpo, Yala Peak, and the Tibetan plateau. Langtang is ideal for trekkers with limited time who don't want to compromise on raw Himalayan beauty.
